Environment & Health
"If you want to learn about the health of a population, look at the air they breath, the water they drink, and the places where they live."
– Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, in the Fifth Century B.C.
Environmental health science — it sounds complicated, but it’s just studying how our health is changed by things in the environment.
What do we mean by “environment”? The environment is what is all around you. Environment is everything that you touch, eat, and breathe every day.
No two people live in the exact same environment. The SOIL beneath our feet, the AIR we breathe, and the WATER flowing through our pipes and waterways can all differ greatly, depending on where we live. On top of that, each of us eats different foods, shares our space with different plants and animals, and has access to different medicines and technology. Environment and Health A to Z.
